Car Dealership Uses UGuardU to Help Sales

Newberg Ford Mercury was one of UGuardU’s first customers. The rural dealership sells about 400 vehicles a year. It was looking for a low-cost way to monitor its lot, both for trouble and for prospective customers. Several vehicles were stolen about four years ago. Owner John Kerekanich ruled out fencing the lot because he feared it would dissuade customers. He looked into commercial security systems but discovered they were too expensive.

The layout of the dealership posed another challenge. Landscaping and a slight slope make it difficult for the eight-member sales crew to see people entering the dealership. Missed customers are missed opportunities to sell. UGuardU mounted an Axis 215-PTZ camera on top of the building to feed the video to the sales managers’ computer and a laptop in the sales room via the uguardu.com website.

“It’s perfect,” said Kerekanich. “if somebody is out there, they can see it instantly and they can go out to engage with the customer.”

UGuardU harnessed the cameras ability to detect motion and setup a system within our software that allows the customer to be notified via SMS text message to a sales person’s phone or send the notification directly to email.

Kerekanich suspected his sales people were missing two to three customers per day who are browsing the inventory. “If you can engage the customer, you improve your chances of selling something exponentially.” he said. “I expect this to pay for itself 100 times over.” Kerekanich credits two car sales in the first two weeks that the camera system was installed.
